Make your solar pay again.

Under NBT, the solar you send to the grid is worth pennies. A battery stores it for the hours it's worth the most — and San Diego Community Power pays a rebate to add one. Plus ~$250/yr per battery and whole-home backup.

First — are you eligible?

Solar + a San Diego Community Power bill? You may qualify.

The rules changed on you

You're giving your solar to the grid for pennies.

Under San Diego's Net Billing Tariff, the power your panels export midday is worth almost nothing — while the power you buy back at night costs a fortune. A battery flips it back: store what you make, use it when it's worth the most.

Questions, answered.

How big is the SDCP rebate?+
For adding a battery to existing solar it's $250/kWh of useable capacity (market rate) — so a 2-Powerwall system is around $6,750. CARE/FERA customers get $350/kWh. New solar + battery earns $350–$500/kWh. SDCP pays it to you by check. Final amount is set by SDCP.
Do I need solar to qualify?+
Yes — the battery must be charged by your on-site solar (no grid charging). Already have panels? You're set. No solar yet? We can quote solar + battery together.
What's the grid income?+
SDCP pays roughly $0.10/kWh for energy your battery discharges in the 4–9 PM window — about $250/yr per battery (estimated), paid annually. You keep at least half your battery in reserve.
What's the catch?+
The rebate requires existing on-site solar and battery enrollment in the dispatch program, and funding is limited and first-come. Otherwise it's straightforward — we handle the paperwork.
