How big is the rebate?+
$300 per kWh of battery nameplate capacity for residential customers — about $4,050 per Tesla Powerwall (13.5 kWh), ~$8,100 on two. It's a utility rebate established under Illinois law (220 ILCS 5/16-107.6, as amended by CEJA and the 2026 Clean & Reliable Grid Affordability Act), paid by ComEd or Ameren by check — typically within ~60–90 days of permission to operate.
Do I need solar?+
Battery storage qualifies with an approved smart inverter, and standalone storage (no solar) became eligible under a 2025 law change — we confirm current eligibility for your address. Pair it with solar and you also earn Illinois Shines SREC value on top.
Do I need special space or roof work?+
No roof work for battery-only. A Powerwall mounts on a garage or exterior wall, indoors or out — about the size of a flat-screen TV. We confirm the spot during your free site check.
What's the catch?+
To get the rebate, ComEd customers enroll in Hourly Pricing (Rate BESH) and Ameren customers enroll in Peak Time Rewards, Real-Time Pricing, or Power Smart Pricing. The storage rebate itself doesn't cost you net-metering status (the separate solar generation rebate can, for legacy customers).
