What exactly did OUC change?+
For solar applications received after June 30, 2025, exported energy is credited at the community solar rate for five years, then the retail fuel rate — instead of full retail net metering. The broader pricing changes take effect Fall 2026. Existing customers who applied in time keep their old rate for 20 years at their current home.
I'm grandfathered — does a battery mess that up?+
No. Adding storage doesn't change your existing interconnection agreement. For grandfathered homes the battery is about backup through storm season and independence from whatever changes next.
Is there a rebate?+
OUC has announced it is relaunching an energy storage rebate as part of its new pricing plan. The amount and terms haven't been published yet — we track it, and when it opens we file it for you. We never promise a rebate before the utility publishes it.
Do I need solar to get a battery?+
No — a Powerwall works on its own for backup and can charge from the grid outside peak hours. If you have solar, it also captures the production you'd otherwise export at the reduced rate.
