Riverside home with Tesla Powerwall battery backup
City of Riverside · RPU customers

Your city's utility is one of the fair ones. Own your power anyway.

RPU credits exported solar around the avoided-cost rate — below the retail you pay back. A Tesla Powerwall keeps your production for your own evenings, backs up your home through heat-wave outages, and makes you indifferent to whatever changes next. Honest math, no villain story, no pressure.

Honest math + heat-wave backup
The honest gap

Export low, buy back higher — smaller here, but real.

Riverside isn't SCE — rates are lower and the utility is yours. But the export math still favors storing your own power over selling it back cheap, and the Inland Empire summer still takes the grid down when it's hottest.

Your personalized numbers

See what your home qualifies for.

Inland Empire heat doesn't care which utility's name is on the bill — and Riverside's own program credits exported solar well below retail. The homes that handle the next heat-wave outage are the ones that prepared in the calm.

Questions, answered.

Is this the same as the SCE deal?+
No — and we won't pretend it is. RPU is a municipal utility with its own rules and lower rates than SCE. The export-vs-retail gap is real but smaller; we show your actual numbers and let them speak.
Do I need solar?+
No. A Powerwall on its own is automatic outage backup and can charge outside expensive hours. With solar, it also captures the export gap.
Is there a rebate?+
RPU doesn't currently offer a battery rebate, and California's general-market SGIP funding is waitlisted. If you're income- or fire-zone eligible we check SGIP Equity honestly — a rebate is a bonus here, never the headline.
What's this extra RPU review step?+
RPU reviews battery interconnections in addition to standard permitting. We file it, track it, and set the timeline expectation up front so it never surprises you.
What does it cost per month?+
Most homeowners start with one battery for a low monthly payment on the financed price. We show every number and confirm against your real RPU bill before anything is signed.
