How big is the SDCP rebate?+
For adding a battery to existing solar it's $250/kWh of useable capacity (market rate) — so a 2-Powerwall system is around $6,750. CARE/FERA customers get $350/kWh. New solar + battery earns $350–$500/kWh. SDCP pays it to you by check. Final amount is set by SDCP.
Will a battery mess up my current solar deal?+
No — adding storage doesn't change your existing solar net-metering agreement. You keep what you have and add a battery on top to capture the value NBT took away.
Do I need solar to qualify?+
Yes — the battery must be charged by your on-site solar (no grid charging). Already have panels? You're set. No solar yet? We can quote solar + battery together.
What's the grid income?+
SDCP pays $0.10/kWh for energy your battery discharges during the daily dispatch window — a 4-hour window between 4 and 9 PM that shifts seasonally. You dispatch about half your battery's capacity; the other half stays available for your own use and backup. It's paid once a year, and actual earnings vary by system size and dispatch (a rough estimate is ~$250/yr per battery).
